South Lake Tahoe is located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The city is situated along the shore of Lake Tahoe, one of the world's most beautiful lakes. The area offers winter skiing, camping, hiking, and a nearly endless list of outdoor recreational activities amid spectacular views. Our permanent population, of approximately 24,000, routinely swells to over 75,000 during summer months and the ski season. Major holidays can bring in excess of 150,000 people to our small community. South Lake Tahoe is sustained primarily by a tourist based, service-driven, economy.

The Police Department is managed through a Participative Management Team (PMT). This process includes personnel from all levels of the agency being involved in the decision making process for the department. There are a number of special teams and assignments available to officers including Detectives, SWAT, Canine, a Narcotics Task Force, Bicycle Patrol, Field Training Officer, Reserve Training Officer, School Resource Officer, Crisis Negotiation Team, and others.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is currently recruiting for the position of Police Officer, Reserve Police Officer and Public Safety Dispatcher. Applications are being accepted at this time. The department is seeking qualified applicants that display the ability and desire to professionally serve our community. Our agency places a high priority on self-initiated and pro-active police work. We stress the concepts of Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving in our philosophy of law enforcement.
