The records staff of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department employ some truly unsung heroes.  Though it may seem less glamorous than many other functions of the police department, our records staff is vitally important to keeping our agency functional. When a member of our public comes to the police department during normal business hours, it will usually be one of our records staff who greets them first.  They field inquiries and complaints from the public at the counter and by telephone, providing and obtaining information in accordance with the law and our policies.

They are quick with a smile and a word of comfort while directing our public to the appropriate resource.  Our records staff perform complex specialized recordkeeping and tasks related to police functions by using automated and manual systems.  They maintain pertinent information regarding complaints in accordance with prescribed policies and regulations. They receive and distribute a variety of material such as arrest and traffic collision reports.  Our Records Technicians conduct statistical checks, maintain updated files, correspond with other local, state and federal agencies as prescribed by law. 

 

Records Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00am – 3:00pm

 

Do you need a release of your stored or impounded vehicle?

            Stored Vehicle Release - $114.00
            Impounded Vehicle Release - $186.00

 

Individuals desiring a vehicle release must display a valid driver’s license, proof of ownership and proof of current auto insurance.  If the person does not posses a valid drivers license, they may or bring a validly licensed individual to the police department with them and display this.   If a vehicle release is needed after hours, (please call non emergency number after hours).  The Watch Commander may be able to assist you.

 

 

Do you need a copy of a police report?  Costs to obtain reports are as follows:

            Copy of police report $16.00
            Copy of police event (computer printout when no report has been generated) $8.00
            Reports will only be available for release during normal records business hours.

 

Do you need to be booked for a misdemeanor citation? $62.00

                You must call and make an appointment for this.
